Seeing A Show
These are displayed on each individual show page (where applicable). We regret that no unaccompanied children under 16 and no children under 3 are admitted into the auditorium unless otherwise stated for certain shows.
I am late for the show - can I still get in?
We regret, for some shows, latecomers may not be allowed into the auditorium until a suitable break in the performance. If you know you are going to be late please ring the Duty Show Manager on 01603 612 580 if possible so they will have a better chance of letting you into to the show whilst minimising the disruption to the audience.
When will the show finish?
Our running times vary, but most shows last a couple of hours. You can find a running time for each performance on its individual show page. Please note that running times are all approximate. Please contact the Playhouse for the latest information if you have tight timings.
Phones and Cameras
Please ensure you switch off your mobile phone inside the auditorium. Tones and lights from phones can be extremely distracting for both performers and other audience members. No photography or sound recording of any kind is allowed during a performance.
Do you have a restaurant?
The Playhouse Bar serves a variety of drinks and snacks such as pastries, crisps and chocolate. However, we do not have a restaurant on site. If you would like a more substantial meal, there are lots of great restaurants and bistros on St George's Street, and around the corner on St Benedict's Street - some providing a pre-theatre dinner. ST ANDREW'S BREW HOUSE: Ticket holders can get a 15% discount on their food bill for themselves and a friend on the day of their show. Booking is essential, call 01603 305995 for more info!
Can we take food or drinks into the show?
We allow drinks in re-sealable plastic bottles to be taken into the auditorium, and for some shows you can bring in your drinks from the bar, as long as they are in plastic cups. We ask you to refrain from eating while in the auditorium and galleries, but you are welcome to eat food in the other public areas of the building.
You can pre-order your interval drinks from the bar; these will be waiting for you in the foyer after the first half of the show. Our bar can get extremely busy during intervals, so please do take advantage of this service.
Can I use my e-cigarette in the auditorium?
We treat e-cigs like any other bit of electronic equipment. It can be distracting for fellow audience members and those on stage, as the light can be seen and the vapour can be unwelcome. We ask that you wait until the interval for your nicotine fix.
